About Us

Where It All Began

Our small home based business kicked off in 2020 with a need to source local, pure, wholesome treats for Banjo & Bear, our two beautiful border collies. We conducted extensive research on safe methods of food dehydration for both pets and their humans and then got cooking.

Our very first batch was created with some donated local lamb liver, cooked in a $40 Kogan dehydrator. Quality controllers Bear, Banjo and Puck (RIP) gave their lick of approval and soon enough all the local doggos wanted in on the action!!

And of course it didn’t take long for the word to spread from the local doggos to the family doggos and the friends’ doggos that these treats are the ducks nuts.

Voila – the Hillbilly Hound was established.

Soon enough we could not keep up with demand!

wholesome, locally and ethically home-made Dog Treats

The response from customers (human and canine and even some feline!) has been overwhelmingly positive. Our products are currently selling out at vets, stockfeed suppliers, markets, cafes and dog friendly camp grounds across Western Australia.

The Hillbilly Hound is not a ‘big player’ in the pet food industry, but we are proud to provide a high quality, single ingredient product, locally sourced and 100% home-made right here in the beautiful Perth hills.

The Hillbilly House

In no time we were running four dehydrators almost every day. We listened to what our customers wanted, adding chicken and kangaroo to our product range. We introduced different bag sizes to cater for everyone from the smallest Chihuahua to the biggest English Mastiff. And all this in the family kitchen…

The family revolted. The smell was sending everyone barking mad!! I shitzu not!!!

Ever supportive of his Hillbilly Girl (if not of the smell), my pawsome husband bought me a ‘donga’. Immediately christened ‘The Hillbilly House’ , the magic now happens in the back paddock, away from the family home … but not too far away.

We now run six dehydrators every day, and have introduced fish products to our range. We still personally hand-make and package each product (under the watchful eye of Banjo and Bear) and can deliver to you promptly, in whatever quantities you require.
